Part 2 in the series “WYSIWYG” (What You See Is What You Get) preached at BCEC’s 2008 Summer Teen Conference.
Sermon date: August 23, 2008
Scripture: Luke 18:18-34
This is the first of 5 sermons at BCEC’s 2008 Summer Teen Conference. The theme was “WYSIWYG” which stands for What You See Is What You Get. The basic idea of the series is as follows.
Fakeness. Most of us hate to see people being fake towards us. We have having to put on masks or be fake to others. But even though we hate it when people are fake, we seem to struggle so much. Why? Perhaps the very reason we despise insincerity and fakeness in others and ourselves is part of the same reason we all struggle with it? How can we be genuine with others and with ourselves? This series considers how the gospel of Jesus Christ applies to this in helpful and surprising ways. Listen to see how the gospel defines WYSIWYG and what should we do about it.
This sermon was intended to be part 1 of a 2 part series on Luke 2:1-21. But the service intended for part 2 was cancelled due to the weather. But the first part of the text is nonetheless worthy of reflection. Consider the two kings Luke contrasts in this text… and you may find yourself singing, “O come let us adore Him…”
